“Is It Too Late?”
“Is It Too Late?” – Why It’s Still Beautiful to Photograph Your Baby After Two Weeks Old
by Wylde Folk Studio – Brisbane Newborn Photographer
One of the most common messages we get as newborn photographers is:
"My baby is already over two weeks old — is it too late for a newborn session?"
And the answer? Absolutely not.
While many studios follow the traditional “under 14 days” guideline, here at Wylde Folk Studio, we believe every stage of your baby’s beginning is beautiful, worthy, and deeply worth capturing — no matter their age.
The Myth of the Two-Week Window
The idea that you must photograph your baby in the first two weeks comes from the days when photographers focused solely on very sleepy, curled-up, womb-like poses. While that early window can certainly make those styles easier, it’s not a hard-and-fast rule, and it’s definitely not the only way to document your newborn.
We don’t believe in missing out on memories just because the “perfect window” has passed.
Every Age Brings Its Own Kind of Magic
At 3, 4, even 6 weeks old, your baby might start to stretch, make eye contact, yawn with the cutest expressions, or even start to recognise your voice. These are incredible moments to capture — ones you’ll treasure just as much as the curled-up newborn shots.
Older newborns often bring:
Soft stretches and open hands
Little facial expressions and alert gazes
That early, heart-melting connection with their parents and siblings
Gentle feeds, snuggles, and the comfort only you can give
These natural, emotive moments are what we live for as storytellers.
Our Approach Is Baby-Led and Relaxed
At Wylde Folk Studio, we take a gentle, baby-led approach to all our newborn sessions — regardless of age. We follow your baby’s cues, take breaks when needed, and flow with their natural rhythm.
No stressful posing. No pressure. Just love, light, and connection.
It’s About Your Story — Not a Timeline
Your journey into parenthood is unfolding in real-time — and it looks different for every family. Maybe your baby arrived early. Maybe you needed more time to rest and recover. Maybe the days blurred together (they do, don’t they?) and you didn’t book a session right away.
That’s okay. Truly.
You are not late.
Your baby is not too old.
This moment — right now — is still worthy of being remembered.
You’ll Never Regret the Photos You Took
But you might regret the ones you didn’t.
Whether your baby is 10 days, 3 weeks, or 8 weeks old, we promise to capture your family with the same care, artistry, and heart that we pour into every session.
Because the way they curl into your chest, the way you instinctively cradle them, the softness in your eyes — those things don’t disappear after two weeks.
Let’s Create Something Beautiful — Just As You Are
If you’ve been putting off booking your newborn session because you think you’ve missed the window, we’re here to gently remind you: this is your permission slip to still go for it.
We’d be honoured to welcome you and your baby into our warm, natural-light studio in Brisbane — or photograph you in the comfort of your own home. Let’s document the beauty of your now.
