Baby Shylah | How to dress your Newborn for a In Home Portrait Session

I often have Mum’s reach out to me about what to dress their Newborn babies in for their Lifestyle Newborn Portrait Session, this is often done in the clients home. Although we have an In House Wylde Folk Style Guide we email out to our clients, I thought I would write a blog sharing my thoughts and ideas on this topic.

  • Keep it simple and opt for more neutral timeless outfits that won't distract from your baby from their natural beauty. I often suggest to my clients a neural onesie is enough, as I bring along some wraps/blankets of my own along to the shoot. Two Darlings, Ziggy Lou,Target Baby, Seed, Country Road, Best N Less and Big W always have great options for this.

  • Choose clothing for your Newborn, that are made from soft, breathable fabrics such as cotton, light knits or bamboo blends. Avoid fabrics that may irritate your newborn’s delicate skin or cause discomfort. You don’t want your Newborn to be irritable during their session. We can always add some little booties or a bonnet/beanie during the session to change up the look. Less is more.

  • Select an outfit that allows for easy access to your newborns nappy, for quick changes during the session.

  • Consider the temperature of your home when choosing an outfit. I like my Newborns to be warm enough for the duration of the session to keep them calm and sleepy.

Remember, the most important thing is to keep your baby comfortable and happy during the photo session. Be prepared with a spare outfit in case of an accident or baby vomit.

Enjoy the experience of capturing those precious early moments of your newborn's life.
