How to Enjoy your Newborn Photography In Studio Session with Sibling's.

Having a Newborn Photography Session in our Brisbane- Based Studio, with your newborn’s older siblings can be a heartwarming and memorable experience. However, lot’s of parents tend to worry about the older siblings, especially if they are still quite young themselves. As a Mother myself, I say embrace the beautiful chaos. To prepare my families for their upcoming session, we always send out some tips and ideas to prepare for your session prior to the session date. This helps to ease parents worry prior to the session and have a more enjoyable time when the time comes to come into the studio. Sibling photographs are a wonderful way to capture the bond and connection between the new baby and their older sibling/siblings and celebrate them becoming a big brother or sister.

Here are some tips to ensure a successful and enjoyable Newborn Photography In Studio Session with siblings:

Include Everyone:

  • Encourage the older siblings to actively participate in the photoshoot. Have a chat to your child/ren prior to the session about the importance of this session for your family. Depending on their age, this could involve holding the baby safely, cuddling in next to their sibling, or simply being present in the photograph.

  • You could bring a family friend or grandparents to the session, if so I will usually try capture the family/sibling shots first as newborn sessions can require patience. Newborns can be unpredictable, and it's essential to allow for feeding breaks and go with the flow. The older sibling/s can have their photos done and head off for a play with the other adult for the duration of the session.

    Snacks:

  • Bring some mess free snacks for your old child, usually something little like a cracker or a small box of sultanas that can be hidden in the photographs.

    Choose Outfits that Coordinate:

  • Consider coordinating outfits for the siblings to create a cohesive and visually appealing look. You don’t have to match, more so coordinate. However, make sure everyone is comfortable in what they are wearing.

    Embrace the Candid Moments:

  • Some of the most precious moments captured are the candid shots that capture the genuine interactions between siblings. Allow them to play and interact naturally while the photographer captures those special moments.

    Natural Light:

  • We use no harsh lights, just plenty of natural light. Soft, natural light can enhance the warmth and tenderness of the photos and help keep children calm.

    Safety First:

  • We always prioritise the safety of the newborn first. We don’t encourage siblings to hold the newborn unless age appropriate.

    Relax and Have Fun:

  • Remember that the goal of sibling/family photographs is to capture the love and connection between each other. Keep the atmosphere light, and try to have fun during the session

By following these tips, you can create a beautiful collection of newborn photos that showcase the love and joy shared between the newborn and their sibling/s.
